Happy Monday Everyone!
I hope everyone had an amazing weekend! Today I am going to be reviewing an amazing book that will take you on a magical adventure. The Bird and the Sword by Amy Harmon, is like a fairytale, and I can’t believe I wanted so long to read it.
The description was taken from the Goodreads website:
“Swallow, Daughter, pull them in, those words that sit upon your lips. Lock them deep inside your soul, hide them ‘til they’ve time to grow. Close your mouth upon the power, curse not, cure not, ‘til the hour. You won’t speak and you won’t tell, you won’t call on heaven or hell. You will learn and you will thrive. Silence, Daughter. Stay alive.
The day my mother was killed, she told my father I wouldn’t speak again, and she told him if I died, he would die too. Then she predicted the king would trade his soul and lose his son to the sky.
My father has a claim to the throne, and he is waiting in the shadows for all of my mother’s words to come to pass. He wants desperately to be king, and I just want to be free.
But freedom will require escape, and I’m a prisoner of my mother’s curse and my father’s greed. I can’t speak or make a sound, and I can’t wield a sword or beguile a king. In a land purged of enchantment, love might be the only magic left, and who could ever love . . . a bird?”
What would you do if you had to witness your mother being killed? When Lark witness’s her mothers death, she finds out that she can no longer speak. She just wants to live her life, while her father ignores her, and she just wants to be loved. When she is kidnapped by the King, she feels like she is trading one prison for the other. However as time goes on, Lark discovers that not everything is what it seems, and some truths are harder to swallow than others. Lark wants to be normal, and loved but will it cost her life to find that happiness?
I don’t want to give too much away, because I give honest reviews with no spoilers, and in all honesty you really need to see the story unfold for yourself. But I can tell you this world that Amy created will leave you absolutely breathless, and her words will draw you right into the story. I laughed, I cried, and I feel in love. If you like adventure, magic, shape shifting, and a complicated romance, than this book is for you. Don’t let this once in a lifetime adventure pass you by, because you won’t regret it!
Soar like an eagle into adventure my friends!
