Pride, Prejudice, and Zombies Review

Happy Friday Everyone!

We have made it another week, and I honestly can’t believe May is already almost over. The book that I decided to finish the week off with is a retelling of my favorite classic Pride and Prejudice. The book is called Pride, Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith and Jane Austen. I will admit when I first saw this book I was really skeptical, and it took me a while to buy it, but when I did and started reading it I absolutely loved it!

The book description was taken from the Goodreads website:

“The New York Times Best Seller is now a major motion picture starring Lily James and Sam Riley, with Matt Smith, Charles Dance, and Lena Headey.

“It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains.”

So begins Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, an expanded edition of the beloved Jane Austen novel featuring all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie mayhem. As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton—and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she’s soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers—and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield. Can Elizabeth vanquish the spawn of Satan? And overcome the social prejudices of the class-conscious landed gentry? Complete with romance, heartbreak, swordfights, cannibalism, and thousands of rotting corpses, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies transforms a masterpiece of world literature into something you’d actually want to read.”

This book tells the story of Pride and Prejudice but has zombies thrown in. You will see a new side to the Bennet sisters and a new side of Mr. Darcy. This book actually surprised me with how much I liked it. I was one of the skeptics, and I was actually pissed that they would do this to my favorite classic. But when they announced they were going to create a movie based on it, I decided to give the book a try, and couldn’t have loved it more. This book would have made Jane Austen proud, and brings the characters we have all come to know and love in a new light to carry on in a new generation. Give this book a try, and you won’t be disappointed, well hopefully you won’t be disappointed.

Go slay zombies my friends!

  1. I really enjoyed the film so I’m glad to see the book is just as good! There was a lot of backlash about ruining a classic at the time and I was sceptical too after enjoying Pride and Prejudice.
