Cruel Beauty Review

Happy Monday Everyone!

As you all know, I love retellings and I love retellings of Beauty and the Beast in particular. This book is nothing short of another amazing retelling of my favorite fairytale ever! The second I saw this book on the shelf of Barns and Noble, I knew I had to have it, and it did not disappoint. Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge takes the tale of Beauty and the Beast and gives it a beautiful makeover for a new generation.

The book description was taken from the Goodreads website:

“Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her kingdom-all because of a foolish bargain struck by her father. And since birth, she has been in training to kill him.

With no choice but to fulfill her duty, Nyx resents her family for never trying to save her and hates herself for wanting to escape her fate. Still, on her seventeenth birthday, Nyx abandons everything she’s ever known to marry the all-powerful, immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, destroy his enchanted castle, and break the nine-hundred-year-old curse he put on her people.

But Ignifex is not at all what Nyx expected. The strangely charming lord beguiles her, and his castle—a shifting maze of magical rooms—enthralls her.

As Nyx searches for a way to free her homeland by uncovering Ignifex’s secrets, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. Even if she could bring herself to love her sworn enemy, how can she refuse her duty to kill him? With time running out, Nyx must decide what is more important: the future of her kingdom, or the man she was never supposed to love.”

This book that Rosamund has created takes you on an epic adventure with magic, lies, and a character who discovers that everything is not as it seems. I was so enthralled with this book, that I couldn’t put it down. If I remember correctly I stayed up late one night just so I could see how it ended. This book does not leave you disappointed and it actually makes you want more. Any lover of Beauty and the Beast needs to read this book if you already haven’t, because you don’t know what a wonderful story you are missing.

Go find your Beast my dear readers, and break the curse!
