Hey Everyone!
We have made it to the middle of the week, and I will say it feels weird due to me being off work on Monday, but hey four day work day! Today I wanted to review another mystery that I recently read and loved. One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus, is described as The Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars.
The book description was taken from the Goodreads website:
“The Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars, One of Us Is Lying is the story of what happens when five strangers walk into detention and only four walk out alive. Everyone is a suspect, and everyone has something to hide.
Pay close attention and you might solve this.
On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention.
Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.
Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess.
Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing.
Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher.
And Simon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High’s notorious gossip app.
Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention, Simon’s dead. And according to investigators, his death wasn’t an accident. On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he’d planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder. Or are they the perfect patsies for a killer who’s still on the loose?
Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them.”
I will admit the first thing that drew me to this book was the mention of the breakfast club. Plus I had just finished reading Karen’s new book Two Can Keep A Secret, and I loved it so I decided to give this book a try. This book was such an amazing thrill ride that I couldn’t wait to see how it all played out. Karen gives the reader twist after twist and you honestly won’t know who did it until the very end. I love books like this, because they leave you on the edge of your seat wanting more. Karen gives you all the clues and sees if you can put them together to figure out who did it, but I bet you won’t see it coming until she tells you. I will admit the character of Addy did get on my nerves at the beginning and I wanted to reach through the book and slap her, but she started to grow and get better with the story. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will be transported back to your old high school days!
Go solve a mystery and see if you can figure out who the killer is before it’s too late.
