Happy Wednesday Everyone!
So, today I bring you another review of a fairytale and this is a tale that I absolutely love. It is also part of the “Once upon a time series”, and like I said if you haven’t read this series you need to. The Wild Orchid by Cameron Dokey, is a retelling on the beloved tale of Mulan, except it is geared more towards the ballad of Mulan, instead of the Disney movie, but still it is amazing.
The book description came from the Goodreads website:
“Wielding a sword as deftly as an embroidery needle, Mulan is unlike any other girl in China. When the emperor summons a great army, each family must send a male to fight, tom-boyish Mulan is determined to spare her aging father and bring her family honor, so she disguises herself and answers the call.
But Mulan never expects to find a friend, let alone a soul mate, in the commander of her division, Prince Jian. For all of Mulan’s courage with a bow and arrow, is she brave enough to share her true identity and feelings with Prince Jian?”
Mulan will do anything to protect her father and her family. When the emperor summons men from each family to come fight for him, Mulan knows what she must do. She has the skills she needs to fight, but can she make an army full of men believe she is one of them. At least she has friendly faces on her side, but what is a girl to do when she stars falling for the Prince? Mulan will do anything to protect her family and bring them honor but it could cost her, her heart and her life.
Cameron creates a retelling that any fan of Mulan will instantly fall in love with. From the first page I was hooked, and I have to tell you this is one of my favorite retellings of Mulan that I have read. Even though I haven’t read this book in a while, it has stuck with me after all this time. If you love the story of Mulan, than you are going to absolutely love this book! If you haven’t read it yet, I suggest you pick up a copy as soon as possible, because if you don’t you will be missing out on one amazing story!
Go on a journey of action and love as Mulan tries to protect her family my dear readers!
